Cults are known for their bizarre rituals. You have already read about the 4th Watch's highly unusual worship and devotion practices, and in a bit, you will also learn about their practice of speaking in tongues. But here you will learn about a cultic practice that is actually common among many mainstream Christian religions, but regardless, can be a truly cultic ritual depending on the beliefs of the church that practices it. This ritual is known as the Holy Communion.
When persons think of cults, they often think of religious groups performing bizarre Satanic rituals involving the drinking of blood and the eating of human flesh. Mainstream Christianity does not engage in this type of behavior...or do they? In actuality, the Christian ritual of communion is seen as a required practice in many branches of Christianity. This ritual involves Christians drinking wine and eating bread as Jesus' disciples did during the Last Supper. Jesus said to drink the wine and eat the bread in order to remember him, as the wine was his blood and the bread was his body. Many Christian churches perform this same ritual every week.
Now many persons see the wine and bread as metaphors for blood and flesh, and that by consuming the wine and bread, you are symbolizing Christ being within you. While that might be the view for some religions, that is not the case for most Christian churches that practice the Holy Communion. Of course, normal persons know that wine is wine and bread is bread, and that's the end of that, but many Christian doctrines, like the PMCC 4th Watch cult, actually state the belief that upon consumption, the wine and bread actually become the blood and flesh of Christ. So even if the Christians don't realize it, their doctrine states that they are drinking blood and eating human flesh.
Yes, that's right. We can honestly say that the PMCC 4th Watch cult teaches to engage in a bizarre and Satanic-like ritual that involves the drinking of blood and eating human flesh. We know that of course they really don't do this, but this is exactly what the doctrine states and is what they believe. If drinking blood and eating human flesh does not qualify for a bizarre and Satanic-like ritual, then what does?
