We have finished explaining most of the characteristics of the 4th Watch, including all of its cultic features. While we have explained to you that being unbiblical does not mean cultic, we have also provided a few things here which the 4th Watch teaches that are unbiblical in order to show that the 4th Watch, despite claiming to follow the Bible literally and 100%, do not actually practice what they preach. Keep in mind that as you read these examples, the 4th Watch explicitly teaches that the Bible is completely inerrant and is the exact word of God. This means that there are no mistakes of any kind and it is to be followed exactly. But it is clear that they do go against certain teachings of the Bible or make up their own.
With that said, the Bible is a book of fiction and immorality anyway, so there is very little value in teaching from it. In fact, because the Bible is so full of incorrect information and immorality, being unbiblical is usually a good thing, and we would encourage anybody in most cases to do things that are not according to the Bible. So just because the 4th Watch does something unbiblical, that does not mean that they are doing something wrong. In fact, by being unbiblical, they are probably doing certain things that are right...as difficult as that can be to imagine.
Now, are there some positive things in the Bible? Sure, there are a few things. Not a lot, but if you look long enough and close enough, you can eventually find something that's positive. With anything in life, the best approach to following advice or believing in new information is to think about what you have just been presented, see if it makes sense to you, research it if necessary, and then make a decision whether or not to follow or believe it. You should never follow anything blindly. This means you have to pick and choose what is right. If someone gave you a bunch of advice and information, you shouldn't have the attitude of just accepting all of it or none of it. You should select what is right and reject what isn't.
The 4th Watch, along with other fundamentalists, teach that the Bible should be accepted in its entirety, which is not a wise thing to do. However, if they are going to make this claim, that the Bible is 100% true and moral, then they should practice what they preach and not pick and choose. But of course, even fundamentalists, while they might not admit it, do pick and choose. So again, the reason why we are presenting this piece to you is to show that despite what they say about following the Bible literally, they don't always do so.
So why does Arsenio Ferriol preach fundamentalism? Well remember that he's not looking to actually teach Christianity, he just wants to make money. From this perspective, he's a smart guy. He knows that the Bible has been around for a long time and has been the source of Christian understanding for many years. Persons trust it and are familiar with it. They are certainly more willing to trust the Bible than someone who just calls himself the Apostle and teaches whatever he wants. Therefore, the Bible is a safety tool for the cult leader to use which will help sell the idea of his apostleship. Further more, the Apostle can't just tell his followers that he only agrees with some of the Bible, because then of course, it just makes the Bible seem not as credible, and then his whole religion also doesn't seem as credible. So he has little choice. His cult depends on him teaching a credible Bible, so he teaches that it is the exact word of God, and that it has no errors, is 100% factually correct, is the complete source for morality, and that it is to be followed literally.
Still, in reality, the Apostle, like most fundamentalists, does not actually practice what he preaches and does not follow the Bible exactly this way. He knows damn well that he can't follow every teaching in the Bible. For one, he'd be arrested and jailed. And two, he wouldn't have nearly as many followers as he does today, and thus he wouldn't be rich. So how does he resolve this issue? Simple, he convinces persons that he is the sole authority on the Bible, and then reinterprets the Bible to fit his teachings. The Bible is very difficult to understand. It is very lacking in detail and wide open to various forms of interpretation. You can take the same verse and come up with a hundred possibilities of what it means. In theory, you can take almost the entire Bible and make it mean what you want it to mean. That is what most cults including this one do. The cult leader has decided what it will teach and has come up with a plan as to how he will explain those teachings according to the Bible.
The first unbiblical property of the 4th Watch is an obvious one, and that is the apostle himself. As I explained earlier, he claims that God had come to him in a vision and made him the Apostle, and he alone is the authority on what the Bible teaches and how the church of God is to be run.
There are several verses which talk about false teachers. Here's three of them:
Mat 7:15
Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
Mat 24:11
And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.
2 Peter 2:3
In their greed these teachers will exploit you with stories they have made up. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping.
Many false prophets do rise. They having been coming forward and deceiving many for years, starting their own cults, and Arsenio Ferriol is nothing new. He is just another con-artist pretending to be a prophet. The truth is, he's no prophet. He is a very smart con-artist and business man that has fooled thousands of persons and has taken their money from them. That's it. He has never been able to demonstrate how he is a true teacher, especially that he is the only true prophet, nor has be ever been able to back up or verify any of his claims.
The Bible implies that a false prophet will be greedy, and will lie to you in order to gain wealth. This is exactly what Arsenio has shown to be. He obviously makes up lies, and he is obviously greedy. His greed is made visible by lying to get money, emphasizing on tithing, and not paying his employees to run his business. He sits back and takes pleasure in all of the wealth that rolls in that he takes from his members.
The fact that he gives himself such illustrious titles, doesn't pay his employees, teaches both immoral and incorrect things, cannot backup his claims, and cannot unify multiple cultures and races, proves he is no apostle sent from God. He is nothing more than a criminal who should have been put in jail a long time ago...and his son can join him.
You can see how we debunk Arsenio Ferriol as a real apostle, both Biblically and otherwise, in a special section dedicated to doing so.
The second unbiblical feature of the 4th Watch is the actual notion of this 4th Watch concept. The fourth watch is unique to the PMCC 4th Watch religion. Arsenio has divided the time of the Earth into four different time periods and called them watches. According to the cult, the first three watches have passed, and we are now living in the fourth watch. The fourth watch is significant because this is the last watch we have to live on Earth, and it is in this watch that the Earth will end. The fourth watch is the watch that contains the Apocalypse; when Jesus makes his return and the Rapture takes place. This is the time when Armageddon will occur and everyone will be judged. In other words, we are now living in the End Times, and this is where the cult gets part of its name.
In the Bible, days were divided into four periods called watches, used when soldiers would take turns being on guard, and the fourth watch was the last period of the day. The notion of the fourth watch involving time being divided into four periods, and the End Time being the fourth watch is obviously derived from this Biblical concept, but the notion that time is divided into four periods, the fourth being the End Time, and that we're now living in the fourth watch, is not in the Bible. Arsenio tries to cover this mistake by saying that God gave him this information in a revelation, but that of course is not true. And besides, it is not in the Bible.
Here, a 4th Watcher tries to explain the 4th watch Biblically and majorly fails:

Why Pentecostal Missionary Church of Christ 4th Watch? The name of the true church is Church of Christ, but what kind of Church of Christ? There are many so called "Churches of Christ"nowadays. It is a necessity to distinguish the true church. Hence the words Pentecostal and Missionary and 4th Watch. Pentecostal means having the attributes of the early church. Missionary is the modern English word for sent one. 4th Watch is the last watch in the parable of Christ in Mark 13:35, which is the end time, or our present time.
The problem with this cult member's reasoning, is that the notion of the 4th Watch which the name of the church is modeled after, is not what the 4th watch in Mark 13:35 is referring to. In fact, let's look at that verse. The 4th Watcher debating us might have left it out so that we wouldn't notice his mistake.

Mark 13:35
Therefore keep watch because you do not know when the owner of the house will come back-whether in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or at dawn.

The 4th Watch as the name for the end time is an unbiblical concept. The fourth watch is the last division of the day, used when soldiers would take turns being on guard. In this verse, Jesus is simply saying to keep watch for the end time, that it could come at any of the four divisions of the day. No where does it state in the Bible that the 4th watch is a distinct period of time other than the last division of a day, and no where does it say that the end time is called the 4th Watch. This is an invention of Arsenio Ferriol, and he is obviously using the 4th Watch as a way to name the end times by using the watches in the Bible. And he's trying to be clever, which is cool, but the watches in the Bible are not periods of time in the way that Arsenio is trying to use them as. Simply put, the fourth watch is unbiblical.
This next unbiblical feature concerns women and equality. We explained previously that the Bible is almost entirely anti-female and how many Christian churches treat females in unacceptable ways, but that the 4th Watch actually treats females pretty well, despite still not treating them in a completely equal and acceptable manner. While we are not completely happy with their treatment, we are happy that for the most part, females are treated very well. However, because the Bible is anti-female, treating females in the positive way that they do is going against the Bible. Don't get us wrong. Again, we are happy that they are not treated in the way that the Bible instructs, but we are merely showing you how the 4th Watch is not practicing according the Bible, even though their fundamentalist doctrine says they do.
The Bible is loaded with anti-female passages and would make any decent person sick to their stomach and heart to read such filth. We have listed here only a few of the many verses that the Bible contains which prove it is anti-female;

1 Timothy 2:11-12
A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent.

Women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the law says.

Deuteronomy 22:28-29 - If a man happens to meet a virgin who is not pledged to be married and rapes her and they are discovered, he shall pay her father fifty shekels of silver. He must marry the young woman, for he has violated her. He can never divorce her as long as he lives.

Leviticus 27:1-7
(This verse states the actual value of females in terms of money to God, basically being worth only about half as much as males.)
Of course, it is obvious that the 4th Watch goes completely against these Bible verses by allowing females to speak in church and even ordaining females as pastors. And of course, a 4th Watcher would never assert that a female is worth only half of that of a man. While this is a very good thing indeed, it clearly shows the hypocrisy of a fundamentalist church.
Arsenio Ferriol knows darn well that it is not moral or politically correct to treat women the way that the Bible commands him to. If he followed these verses, then his church really would look like a cult, not only to educated people, but to everybody. He would not have very good support of his church and by having females in his cult who are treated equally, he only stands to make more money. After all, women today have about just as much money as men do, so why not take it from them as well?
Of course, as we have mentioned, the 4th Watch is still not completely innocent when it comes to treating females equally. They are not. But, they are treated far better than the Bible instructs, and this ultimately goes against their Biblical fundamentalism.
The next unbiblical teaching of the 4th Watch is a spherical Earth. Again, we are extremely happy that the 4th Watch teaches that the Earth is a sphere. We certainly don't want them teaching that the Earth is flat, and there are still religious organizations that still teach this because of the Bible. We are just saying that the Bible teaches a flat Earth, and so the 4th Watch obviously goes against this teaching. Here are just a few of the many verses in the Bible that teach a flat earth:
Ezekiel 7:2
Also, thou son of man, thus saith the Lord GOD unto the land of Israel; An end, the end is come upon the four corners of the land.

Daniel 4:10-11
Upon my bed this is what I saw; there was a tree at the center of the earth, and its height was great. The tree grew great and strong, its top reached to heaven, and it was visible to the ends of the whole earth.

Isaiah 40:22
It is he who sits above the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers; who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, and spreads them like a tent to live in;

There are many verses which confirm that the bible speaks of a flat earth, and plenty of non-biblical sources which also confirm this. We're not going to go into all of that here, but I will say that the Bible does indeed teach a flat Earth.
Of course, if Arsenio followed the Bible and taught that the Earth was flat, then there would not be one partially sane person on the flat earth that would take him seriously. He knew he obviously couldn't teach that the world was flat, so once again, he needed to reinterpret the scripture. In fact, the apostle uses many of the same techniques that other religious leaders use in order to make the Bible look like it still knows what it's talking about.
Their favorite explanation is to simply dismiss much of the language in the Bible as metaphors. When the Bible talks about the ends of the earth, according to the 4th Watch, this is just a metaphor. The only problem with this explanation, is that it's not. When persons say "the ends of the earth", it is obviously a metaphor today. But back then during the Biblical part of the world, inhabiting persons were among the last remaining civilizations that still believed that the Earth was flat, and when they said these things, they did not mean it as a metaphor.
As we are coming to an end on the characteristics of the 4th Watch, there are only a few more points to make.
One smaller point that we want to make about the 4th Watch cult is that they are a church that is literally plagued with gossip. As soon as the preaching stops, the 4th Watch missionary church of Christ becomes the missionary church of gossip, and that is literally what the church is used for by its members, a center for gossip. Persons there love to talk about each other and about others behind their back. Rumors get started and all hell breaks loose.
It might seem like small stuff, but gossip is a very real reason to hate this church. Everybody turns against you, and one bout of gossip starts a chain reaction that puts everybody against each other, a situation that Jesus would not be proud of. There are persons, not necessarily in the 4th Watch, who have been killed over this. So, gossip is nothing to take too lightly.
Now you'd think that a church which claims to be the one true church of Jesus Christ would focus more on his teachings rather than build a church in his name and then use it for scamming others out of money and gossiping about them. Much of the time, the 4th Watch cult members feel like they are all family, but all it takes is for you to find out that one of your friends was telling someone else about all the secrets you told them, and fights break out. We have spoken to a lot of 4th Watchers, and they just can't help but betray their friends.
Now, we don't believe that this is necessarily a direct feature of the cult, as they don't really teach or encourage gossip. We believe that this is just a flaw of the persons who go there. We're not one to stereotype, but we have a lot of Filipino friends and the producers of this project are made largely of Filipinos, and they all say that Filipinos love to gossip. Since the 4th Watch is almost an exclusively Filipino club, it is probable that there is going to be lots of gossip running around.
Still, it doesn't help when fellow cult members are being taught that their lives are meaningless and worthless, and that they are nothing but evil sinners anyway. When taught this, it doesn't really seem to matter how you behave yourself, because you're evil and mean nothing to God anyway. Further more, you have to remember that these persons are taught things like when God murders innocent children, that it's an act of love, that when God commands women to marry their rapists, that this is fair, and that believing in gods, magic, and unicorns is rational.
When taught to believe such ridiculous things, it wouldn't be too far fetched to believe that betraying your friends and gossiping about them is just another act of friendship. And added to all that, it goes to show you just how hypocritical Christians can be. While gossip might not necessarily seem cultic, people do not go to church to hurt people. They go there to learn how to be closer to God. But since that is not what true 4th Watchers go to church for, that does not happen. And shame on the 4th Watch for doing nothing about it.
In this paper we have talked about all the things we can think of that classifies the 4th Watch as a cult. But, as we mentioned before, despite whatever behaviors there are specifically about such organizations, sometimes when we enter a cult or stay with one for a while, we just seem to develop certain feelings that just don't seem right, that makes us feel like something is wrong. If you experience these feelings, then it is best for you to be on guard, because it wouldn't be too unrealistic that you have found yourself as part of a cult. And if you experience certain feelings, then the chances might be good that you are.
Like most persons, none of use knew we were entering a cult when we joined. At first, we felt comfortable and safe, and then over time, we gradually began to have "those feelings" as if something wasn't right and that something was very wrong. So what feelings did we begin to have while being in the Watch? Well, several feelings come to mind. When we were in the 4th Watch, the situation felt creepy, and we felt confused, lost, disappointed, betrayed, used, angry, sad, sick, and raped.
It was very creepy to witness prayer time in the 4th Watch, as you'd see persons crying, shaking, and speaking in tongues. Normal persons just don't do that and we knew that we were around very weird and unstable persons. But we were also confused, as we didn't understand why persons were acting this way. We couldn't understand why persons were being taught to hate, or why they were being taught that the earth was so young when it wasn't. We felt lost. We don't know exactly how to explain why. Perhaps we just felt like we were looking for others to call our friends, who would help us find Jesus, and it became clearer as the days went on that this people were not interested in Jesus, they were only interested in money, teaching hatred, and recruiting new members like us. So, we felt lost.
But of course we were disappointed as well. We were expecting a new family. We were expecting all that was promised to us. All those good things promised never came. We were let down. And even worse, we felt betrayed. We felt betrayed not only from the broken promises and unfulfilled commitments, but these persons who were supposed to be our friends and love us, turned on us and started rumors about us. They pretended to be our friends in order to keep us from leaving. They used members of the church to befriend us to earn our trust, and then left us after we could no longer handle being in the cult. And they used us. Although we did not give them money, we gave them a lot of our time in order to help them with their activities. They used some of our artistic talents to make posters and presentations, and they took advantage of our kindness when we helped them with their car washes and decorations. They exploited our trust, in an attempt to program us to do their will.
This all left us with a deep feeling of sadness. Sometimes, we just felt like crying after for what they did to us, and what they are continuing to do to others. For weeks we were very sad, and as the sadness started to pass, we became more and more angry about the whole situation. How could they do this to us? All of this left us sick inside. We had a very difficult time dealing with it. Sometimes we just felt like throwing up. For most of us, it was around this time after we had left when we began to realize that we had been involved in a cult.
But the worst feeling we had was not confusion or sadness or sickness, it was the feeling like we had been raped. None of us had ever been physically raped, and we do not pretend to equate what we went through to what a woman might go through when she is sexually abused, but we felt that we had actually started to comprehend the kinds of feelings a woman goes through mentally after it happens. We believe we felt the same way. We were disgusted and felt dirty. We were hurt and were in pain. We had been used in a way we didn't give consent to be. We were taken advantage of and exploited. They lied to us to get what they wanted, and when it was all over, we felt so ashamed. They tried to force their will onto us, by trying to program us and make us believe things we didn't want to believe, things we knew were untrue. They tried to make us hate homosexuals and believe that earth was 6,000 years old. We were spiritually raped.
All these feelings and experiences we knew would change us forever. We knew we had to do whatever we could do to help prevent this from happening to others. That is why we are trying to educate persons about the true nature of the 4th Watch, that it is a dangerous cult in which everyone needs to stay away from.
Here is a summary of all of the cultic features of the PMCC 4th Watch cult. Keep in mind as you look at these that while all of them are cultic features, remember that not all of them are necessarily negative, just characteristic of cults. For instance, there's nothing wrong about having a leader, and there's certainly nothing wrong with a leader being smart and educated; but such features are common for cults and help to identify certain organizations as being cultic.
